I bought the Aida for myself the week I made partner. Three years on, the brass has gone the colour of dark honey and people still stop me in the street to ask about it. It has aged better than I have.

What surprised me was the weight. You see the photographs and think, that is a beautiful object. Then it arrives and it has heft, and you understand that someone stood at a bench and hit it until it was that shape.

I wore the Elva to my mother’s eightieth. She turned it over in her hand for a long time and said it reminded her of a bracelet her own mother had. That is not a thing I expected to buy.

Ordered on the Tuesday, sized on the Thursday, on my hand the following week. For a one-off object made by hand, that is faster than most things I buy that are made by machine.
